Pana News

March 1st, 2010

The player has a decent logo now, thanks to Christopher Stark.

The PPA doesn’t install correctly, I had planned to fix it this past weekend but instead spent the weekend installing Kubuntu and Fedora over and over. I was going to start using Ubuntu but the NVIDIA driver does not work well enough for me to be able to use it so I am back to Fedora. If anyone knows how to make PPAs and can chat on IM or IRC I think I have a couple quick questions that would really help to know the answer to.

There is another clone of Amarok 1.4 that many people have sent me lately : http://code.google.com/p/clementine-player/ . There are some issues with code sharing because of the license , GPLv2 of Amarok 1.4 that I used as a base cannot be mixed with GPLv3 that they are using. I’m looking at other possibilities so that I am not wasting my time while everyone switches to theirs :)

If you see any other forks or copies out there please keep sending them to me.

The source is on Launchpad: pana-1.4.15.tar.bz , I sent a Pana PPA but it’s not approved yet.

Main changes in this version:

- Wikipedia fix from here http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8537150
- Renamed xinecfg.kcfg to panaxinecfg.kcfg to avoid conflict with Amarok 1.4
- Default to –without-arts
- Other languages translation files fixed to have Pana name in them and work again. Thanks to Florian Schröck for the script to automate it.

Pana 1.4.14 Released

February 6th, 2010

This is the same as 1.4.13 but I’ve checked every single file for license information. A few that I edited to say “GPL 3 or later” had to be switched back. There’s no way to release this under GPLv3 for the time being. Please use this version or later for bug reports or patches.

Pana 1.4.13 Released

February 4th, 2010

There are minor bugfixes for many optional components, and a major licence fix. There will be another release soon that is only licence fixes.

Ipod/gpod bug in 1.4.11

February 3rd, 2010

There is a bug in the makefile for ipods, it will be fixed in the next release in a couple days. It doesn’t affect anything else.

Pana 1.4.11 Released

January 26th, 2010

Download links above and on the right. Also put the source in Launchpad. This is strictly a patched Amarok 1.4.10 that has been renamed. There is no method to migrate Amarok config and data to Pana yet.

About Pana

January 25th, 2010

I’m trying to continue having Amarok 1.4.10 running on newer KDE4 systems. I got tired of 2x installs messing with my (1.x) player so I changed the name and the config filenames to match. So you can have Amarok 1 or 2 installed and this won’t mess with it. I applied patches I found around the net, some bug fixes, a security fix from Debian and a Lastfm cover grabber to replace Amazon.

I am debating removing broken pieces – though this goes against my desire to keep it running as it is – that are severely broken and unlikely to be fixed. The first big one is Magnatune – you can’t buy the music anymore as they disabled external apps.
